Reimagining an Iconic Home

This customer’s home was built in the early 1970’s and was due for a major update.

    Story

The client had two main priorities: honor the property’s past, and prepare it for the next 50 years. After working through various renovation plans, it became clear that the best approach was to carefully deconstruct the house down to the foundation and rebuild.

Working with a team that included an architect, interior designer and landscape designer, Apple Tree Builders built this high-end custom home in about 18 months.

The star of this project is wood: exposed oak beams, beautiful oak windows, oak floors, black walnut cabinets, and stained cedar siding.

Another special aspect of this build was the focus on sustainability and ensuring the lowest possible carbon impact. Working with the architect, we established a “carbon budget” that helped guide decisions about materials (plaster instead of sheetrock, leveraging the existing foundation, sustainable insulation products, etc) and systems (geothermal heat pump, all-electric systems, and tie-in with existing solar energy systems).

While this wasn’t a “normal” project for Apple Tree Builders, it highlights elements we bring to every project: a commitment to sustainability, an eye towards craft, and a collaborative spirit.
